Coldwater Coffeehouse and Bakery in Avondale offers a warm, approachable spot where coffee lovers and bakery enthusiasts intersect naturally. This cafe, bakery, and coffee shop is nestled on E Western Ave, standing out as a community-focused locale with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients and traditional sourdough baking techniques.

The atmosphere here leans cozy and inviting, making it a comfortable place to settle in with a book or catch up with friends over a carefully crafted cappuccino or an iced oatmilk latte. Locals and visitors alike appreciate how the space feels like a neighborhood living room rather than a commercial café—casual yet thoughtfully curated, which encourages lingering during mid-morning or early afternoon hours.

Coldwater’s kitchen highlights fresh, whole-food ingredients, positioning this spot as more than just a quick coffee stop. Breakfast staples such as sourdough French toast and waffles pair well with their house-brewed coffee, while heartier choices like tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich or Italian ragu on housemade rolls provide satisfying midday options. The bakery lineup is equally appealing, bringing in buttery scones, a variety of muffins, and several cookie types that locals often mention as treats worth a repeat visit.

The service reflects genuine friendliness and attentiveness, with staff who seem to know regulars by name and happily share the story behind their menu. Families feel welcome here, as demonstrated by the availability of kid-friendly menu items like French toast sticks or waffles, and even thoughtful touches like complimentary muffins for little ones on occasion.

Those who frequent Coldwater often highlight the connection the café has with local farmers and producers, creating a sense of place that is firmly rooted in Avondale’s growing downtown scene. It’s a place that works well whether you’re popping in solo for a morning caffeine fix, enjoying a casual breakfast date, or bringing kids along for a relaxed weekend treat.

Given its early closing time in the early afternoon, the best times to visit are in the morning and just before lunchtime. Expect a calming, somewhat homey environment that supports a slower pace—ideal for those who appreciate thoughtfully made coffee and food without the rush of busier corporate chains.

Loved this cute little place! The atmosphere is very homey and warm. The employees were all very helpful and friendly. I got an iced oatmilk latter and it was great. I also got the egg, herb, and cheese bollo and it was delicious. Definitely worth the price!

Wow, what a great place! My husband and I wanted to go on a date before heading back to NC and stopped for breakfast here — so happy we did! The waffles and French toast were incredible , and the coffee was delicious. The whole experience was a 10/10. The chef even came out to chat and shared how he came up with some of the recipes, which made it feel so personable and special. LOVED IT!

Really nice little coffee shop, tucked away in old downtown Avondale. Very good service, with a somewhat cozy atmosphere. You should try them out if you're in the area.

They NEVER miss. I found this place while searching for something new to try on a cheat day and I have been so thankful ever since. The first time I tried the bollos I ordered them again two more times that week . I even brought my daughter with me and they were so kind enough to give her a complimentary muffin . Today we walked in at 1:03pm after realizing last minute that they’d closed at 1pm. I told them I was sorry and had just realized the time. They asked what I’d like and I told them the bollos; they happily cooked them on the spot, and sent us off with a smile and kind words. My daughter and I love this place so much, perfect for a mommy-and-me date with your little especially since it’s located near a park, shops, etc.

Great coffee shop with delicious bakery items and breakfast! My wife and I wanted to sample a bit of everything. The brioche French toast and waffles were amazing! The waffles had fresh ingredients, not the traditional waffle but even better. You could taste the quality of ingredients! Also tried the Bollo and the bread was moist and complimented the egg, bacon, and cheese wonderfully! Lastly we tried a pumpkin spice bread item and it was flavorful and hit the spot! The coffee had great flavor as well! Highly recommend this coffeehouse and bakery! So fresh and delicious!

I don’t know how I’ve never heard or seen this place. Me and my wife were craving breakfast and while doing a quick search in my maps I found this place pop up. Ordered online 3 bollos: ham & cheese, chorizo & egg, and sausage & green chile. As well as a cold brew. Driving up to place feels like you’re going into someone’s house. Inside was pretty packed with people. All the staff were super sweet and lovely. They all knew my name when I was coming in. I guess I was the only take out order haha. They had a nice assortment of pastries breads and local goods like soaps and honey. Definitely would love to come back and eat in. The food was so great. You can tell these are made fresh and in house. My favorite was the sausage & green chile. As well they gave me salsa and this stuff was so flavorful and very spicy. Reminds me of Peruvian ají that my grandma makes. 5 stars all around. Highly recommend this place. Seems great to go in if you want to work on your laptop, hang out, have breakfast or brunch with friends. Most likely will be my new spot for the weekend. Thanks Staff!

A great spot for breakfast and coffee. We tried three different bollos—the chorizo & egg, sausage & green chile, and bacon & egg—and they were all delicious. The bread has a perfect crisp outside with a soft, airy inside, and the fillings are flavorful and satisfying. Our favorite was the sausage and green chile—really good flavor and just the right amount of heat. We also had an iced brown sugar latte and an iced vanilla latte, both smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet. Easily some of the better lattes in the area. The atmosphere is warm, the service is friendly. It has a cozy, relaxed, comfortable feel that makes you want to stay a while.
